                The Expeditionary Army 852 Group

                The Expeditionary Army 852 Group

                Background

After the World War II came to an end, most of Expeditionary Army veterans, who stayed in China, lived in a remote rural area or mountainous region in Yunnan, Hunan, and Sichuan provinces. With the development and opening of society, many young men begin to care about and pay attention to them.

After we knew Expeditionary Army veterans’ experience and status quo by chance in 2010, we decided to do something for veterans. For this reason, we established the Expeditionary Army Veteran Retirement Fund, of which a sum is used to pay retirement pensions to veterans. We hope that such pension can reduce veteran’s future life pressure and improve their life to some extent.

After the fund was established, we thought the monthly pension can be paid to veterans by mail. However, because veterans live in a remote and faraway place, it is very inconvenient to pay them by mail and mailing service is not available at some places. Later we decided to pay them personally twice a year in order to ensure that such pension is paid to them. Therefore, the company organized some young men to head for veteran’s home in Yunnan, Sichuan, and Hunan in every May and October so as to visit veterans and bring pensions to them. Each veteran can receive RMB 500 monthly.

In order to fulfill this task orderly, we established the Expeditionary Army 852 Group, consisting of veterans and ExSaf’s young men who visit veterans every year.

                The Expeditionary Army 852 Group

                Introduction

Myanmar was a colony of the UK as the World War II broke out. It leans against British India to the west and borders China’s Tibet and Yunnan Province to the north and northeast. In 1940, Yunnan-Myanmar Highway was the only channel for aiding China.

After the Pacific War broke out, Japan occupied Southeast Asia in a short period of time and intended to occupy Myanmar to disconnect the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway. For China, the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway was the final lifeline to seek foreign aids. If it was occupied by Japan, foreign aids could not enter China easily. Thus China would encounter a lethal blow because China was fighting against Japan and was in urgent need of materials and foreign aids.

In order to defend Myanmar, the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway, and the rear part of southwest China, China established the Expeditionary Army, which went abroad to fight for the first time since the Sino-Japanese War of 1894. As from the day Chinese army entered Myanmar, the China-Myanmar-India War took three years and three months. China dispatched 400,000 soldiers and its casualties approximated to 200,000.

Though the Expeditionary Army’s casualties were several times higher than that of Japan, it protected the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway. The combat was one of a few combats in which Japanese soldiers were wiped out.

Because of the Expeditionary Army’s spirit of sacrifice, China was esteemed by the world.
